Memorial Day
by Steve Conley
Memorial Day is much more than a three-day weekend that
marks the
beginning of summer. This is also an excellent time to reflect
on the history of blacks in the U.S. Military. They have been
there since the American Revolution. They are now protecting
Americans from post all around the world (while not always being treated
as 1st class citizens at home). As I write this article from my
hotel room in Chicago. I think back to a Memorial Day
ceremony I attended at Grant Park just a few hours ago. There was
hardly anyone there under the age of 30. While I love the NBA,
NFL, and other pro sports. I don't think that our children should
have more respect for Michael Jordan and Jerry Rice, than the
Buffalo Soldiers,
Tuskegee Airmen, my favorite the
761st Black Panther Tank Battalion, and others that have fought for
our freedoms. My father (My Hero) who lost his leg during
The bloody fight for
Guadalcanal
in World War II, is who I show respect to by taking my mother to place a
wreath on his grave during this holiday weekend.
Wouldn't it be great if we could get our young people to wear Historic
Gear (T-Shirts, Jeans, Caps) on Memorial Day weekend?
We have to do it for them. How about taking the
time to watch a movie like Glory. Or reading a book with them like
Brothers in Arms. As the Executive Director of the largest "Supermarket
of Veterans Benefits" in U.S. History, I spent a great deal of time
researching the treatment (mistreatment) of Veterans in this country.
We have to realize that the "Quality of our Armed Forces, will be based
on the Treatment of our Veterans". Let's do more that eat great
Bar-B-Q on this day. "LET'S RESPECT & REMEMBER THE VETERANS".

GIVE YOURSELF A RAY'S
Most uninspired thirty-somethings only dream of chucking the middle manager rat race and pursuing something they truly love. In 2002, St. Louis native Ray Hill did just that, turning his hobby and passion for home brewing into a full-time vocation.
During a trip to Colorado in 1998, Hill fell in love with craft-brewed beers and decided to create a brew in his kitchen, fermenting it in his basement. The result was Ray Hill's American Pilsner -- a full-bodied craft beer with a round, malty sweetness and a smooth finish. READ MORE

A Brother Finally Gets a Shot at a Major UFC Title

"The Iceman" Chuck Liddell got the lion's share of the attention going
into the main event of UFC 71. He was the one making
cameos on HBO and gracing the covers of magazines. Quinton "Rampage"
Jackson just happened to be Liddell's opponent.
